Some of MAAC’ achievements are:

•    Drafted wording for Year of Manufacture Plate which was approved and implemented by the RMV.

•    Exempt antique vehicles from emission testing and waiver from annual inspection if vehicle is off road for extended period.

•    Initiated law to allow specialty insurance carriers to offer agreed value insurance coverage.

Gus Wilson and the Model Garage Series
Popular Science Monthly's series "Gus Wilson and the Model Garage" ran from July 1925 through December 1970 and was consistently the most popular feature in the magazine.  It has been estimated that the Gus Wilson stories are the most widely read of any short stories in publishing history, based on the fact that the average copy of Popular Science was read by 5 people.

Hints On Quick Get-Away - May 1935
___________________________________
If you are not old enough to remember the stories, they are written in a warm human-interest style and involve logical problem solving techniques for various automobile ills.  The golden age of the series was the late 1940's and continued through the 1950's with improved character development. The stories should be of great interest to owners of antique autos.  The prices for parts and repairs also provide a nostalgic glimpse into the past.

Many thanks to Mike Hammerberg who has created a web site with a complete archive of all 529 of the Model Garage stories including illustrations and background information.

Usage Notes:

One confusing part of the Old Car Brochure site's navigation is the statement:

"If the image is too big for your screen, just click on the last part of the trace to the see the image resized to fit."

What this means in English, is to click on the last part of the text above the image that contains the image name.   As an example, in the sample image above is to click on
"1935 Oldsmobile 10.jpg" to reduce the size of the image.  You then have to use your browser's back button to return to the full size image.

The Classic Car Catalog website contains an extensive collection of Brochures, Advertisements & Pictures of vehicles manufactured from 1930 to 1979.   Similar to the  Old Car Manual Project website in many ways, it contains some literature that is not yet on the Old Car Brochures Site (vice versa also applies).   It also does not just concentrate on the domestic automobile industry, but is worldwide in scope.

Part of the site is in the Polish language, but you should not have any trouble with navigation of the website.  (You can always use Google Translate to convert the text if you need to.)

Clicking on "ENTER" or on the "automobile image" that is on the HOME page of the website will bring you to two indexes, one by year and the other by vehicle make, making navigation very easy.

___________________________________
In summary, the Classic Car Catalog is a very useful site for doing research on a vehicle.  The size of the images on the site are not as large as they are on the Old Car Brochure site, but the site has more extensive content.

Some car model years have better information than others, some not at all.

It is also very easy to navigate through the years of a particular automobile manufacturer.  At the bottom of the each page is a link to the "next" and "previous"  years of the marque.

The Old Motor is a vintage online automobile magazine.  They work hard to provide well researched, entertaining and educational content.  They also make an ongoing contribution to automotive history.

The home page is a mixing pot where all photos enter in the order that they are submitted.   Many people enjoy this format because it is like a treasure hunt, you never know what automotive oddity or masterpiece you might see next.

You can browse at will, or if you prefer a more focused visit, you can select any of the different classifications which you can see under the categories in the left hand column.  All of the photographs are enlarge-able, providing that the file size is larger than the one shown on the page simply by clicking on them.  A search capability is also provided.
